First week in WA!

Hey y'all! Here's Sister Matthews latest email. Find out all about her first week in Washington!

Hello everyone!

I made it safe to Washington on Halloween! Once we flew in to Seattle, the mission president and his wife picked us up and took us to their house and fed us lunch at 2:00. Then we had interviews with the mission president and some training. Once everyone was done we went to the stake center to get our trainers. I'm in a trio! My trainer is Sister Derieg and my other companion is Sister Unitt. I love being in a trio! They teach me so much. My area is in a city called Auburn and I'm serving in the Lake Holm ward. Our area is very spread out. We live in the forest it's really cool. The trees make it get really dark though because they are so big. Washington is beautiful. They trees are really tall and the leaves are very big. I'm pretty sure I've seen a leaf bigger than my face. It's also very wet. They day I flew in it was nice and sunny. Then the next day it was rainy and cold and it stayed that way the rest of the week. It even snowed a couple of days. But today the sun is out and it feels amazing! I'm living in the basement of a members home. They're the Barkers. We don't see them very much because we go through the garage but they are a very nice family. They're wasn't originally room for all 3 of us so we had to get a bunk bed from the office Elders. I'm the lucky one that doesn't have to sleep on the bunk bed. Our ward is amazing. They are so missionary oriented. The ward mission leader was the old stake president and he is amazing. He helps us out a lot. I had my first member dinner on Thursdaywith the Murdocks. They are so nice. They fed us Navajo tacos which were a lot better than the ones in the MTC. I'm so glad I get to eat home cooked meals now. They have a daughter on a mission so they love to feed the Sisters. Last night we had dinner with the Bulsons. Brother Bulson is the patriarch and he's from Michigan. They fed us waffles and had us put ice cream on them. I don't know why but I've never put ice cream on my waffles but it was amazing. Definitely life changing. Then they gave us hot chocolate. That meal just made my week. It was so good. We also had a member give us homemade bread which is amazing. So don't worry mom and dad I am eating. I met my first investigator this week! It was so cool to see the Spirit speak to him during our first lesson. The benefits of missionary work definitely out way the challenges. I went tracting for the first time this week on Saturday. In our mission we set aside the first Saturday of every transfer for just finding new potential investigators. They call it the festival of finding. At first I was not a fan because talking to strangers is not my specialty, but it's incredible how many people need a message of hope. We ran into a man doing yard work and we asked him what he's most thankful for and he said it was people like us spreading Christ's church. I thought that was really cool. The people here in Washington area amazing. They're so open to hearing our message. One thing I'm most grateful for is that our mission is a car mission. And my companions and I have the nicer car. It's a Subaru instead of a Toyota. I'm so thankful for the opportunity I have to be here. I can see the Lord's hand in my life in everything I do. I love you all!

Love,
Sister Matthews
