First Week

Chelsea is doing great! Turns out she'll be in the MTC for 3 weeks instead of two, like we originally thought. Here's her first email, and some pictures. Her P-day (preperation day)? is on Tuesdays so you can expect an update every Tuesday or Wednesday from here on out. Enjoy!

"This week has been great!! The days are really long so it feels like I've been here for a month. The spirit is so strong here too. I'm definitely not the same person I was a week ago. I've learned so much over the past few days. I have the best teachers too. They are so amazing. My district is amazing too! We all get along so well which is definitely a blessing. Our district likes to laugh a lot too which can be a distraction at times, but I think we all need the laughter. Last night we had a discussion about stress and we all wrote down what we were stressed about and it was very revealing. On Thursday we started teaching our first investigator which is actually just one of our teachers. It went really well! My companion and I definitely make a great team. My companion is Sister Hobbs. She is soooooo amazing. We get along really well which is also a huge blessing. We definitely laugh more than we probably should. On Friday the new building of the MTC was dedicated and Elder Oaks and Elder Eyering were there. It was so amazing. Elder Oaks talked about the history of the MTC and Elder Eyering gave the dedicatory prayer which was beautiful. You can feel the Spirit so strong when an apostle of the Lord prays. Sunday my entire district joined the choir so now we get to sing at the devotional tonight. My favorite ways to feel the Spirit is through hymns! Next time when you're in church I would encourage you to really read the words of the hymns. They're so beautiful! We also had a devotional with Elaine S. Dalton which was also amazing. Her message was short and sweet but still powerful. Yesterday we met with our first real investigators called TRC's. It was definitely a different experience than just teaching our teacher but I think that makes it that much more meaningful. The weather here is beautiful! It's cold in the mornings, but during the day it feels so good. This morning we went to the Provo temple as a district and did a session which was really cool. Let me just say the temple food is better than the MTC food haha! The MTC food isn't bad but my entire district got sick after lunch yesterday. The chocolate milk in the MTC is really amazing though. The Elders in my district have been trying to get me drink it and yesterday I finally caved. I can definitely feel the Spirit teaching me everyday. Learning the language of the Spirit is definitely a challenge, but I can feel myself getting closer to understanding it. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and all he has done for me. I've had so many amazing experiences. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love you and miss you all!

Love,
Sister Matthews"
